Hear What it Takes to be a Great Mentor

Even if you don’t have a ticket to the Plank Center’s sold out “Milestones in Mentoring” awards gala this Thursday evening, you can get a free front row seat thanks to live streaming of the program honoring six great mentors.

This year’s top mentors are:

  • Legacy: Patrick Ford, worldwide vice chair, chief client officer, chairman, Burson-Marsteller
  • Executive: Aylwin Lewis, CEO, Potbelly Sandwich Shop
  • Corporate: Wendi Strong, executive vice president, enterprise affairs, USAA
  • Agency: Andy Polansky, chief executive officer, Weber Shandwick
  • Educator: Dr. Lynne Sallot, professor, University of Georgia
  • Young Professional: Jose Rivera, lecturer, Cal State San Bernardino

The honorees aren’t just coming to Chicago to accept another award. While in in the Windy City, they will meet with PRSSA members from several area colleges. Students have researched each of the mentors and will lead the Q&A session intended to provide insights into what makes these mentors role models for effective two-way communication with their mentees. Past recipients of “Milestones in Mentoring” awards also planning to meet with students include: Ann Barkelew, John Deveney and Judy VanSlyke Turk.

You can follow the day devoted to mentoring via #PlankMentor on Twitter or tune into the one-hour awards program at 8 p.m. CT via live streaming on the Plank Center’s website.
